A Bay Area native and proud Mexican-Filipina American, Melina wears many hats: first-gen daughter, mamá of two, and a public health leader with 7+ years of experience. She holds a BS in Health Sciences from Saint Mary’s College of California and an MS in Community Health Education from Columbia University. Rooted in health education and now focused on quality and systems improvement, Melina complements her work with a strong dedication to health equity and amplifying community voices. She moves with ganas - passion, purpose, and hustle - creating spaces of trust and momentum wherever she shows up. Whether coordinating a team or building cross-sector collaborations, Melina is driven by connection, care, and big-picture thinking. As a mamá, mentor, and movement builder, she’s dedicated to widening the door so others can walk through with confidence.
What drives you to be a part of Lean In Latinas?
I’m here for the magic that happens when Latinas show up for each other. There’s real power in being seen, mentored, and celebrated, and even more in passing that on. Lean In Latinas reminds me that we rise higher when we rise together. That our stories, voices, and dreams belong, in every room, at every table. Uplifting our comunidad? That’s what keeps my fire lit.
What advice would you give to other Latinas?
You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward. Trust your instincts, honor your lived experience, and don’t let anyone shrink your shine.
What do you do for fun?
Hot yoga to shake off the stress, dance classes because joy deserves a soundtrack, movie nights with my girls and husband (popcorn rules apply), and catching ocean breezes like it’s my part-time job.
