Volunteer Role: Chief Development Officer (CDO)
- Organization: Lean In Latinas
- Location: Remote but occasionally in person when needed, e.g., annual conference in the Bay Area, leadership retreat.
- Time Commitment: 5–10 hours per month with additional time leading up to the annual conference (spring – summer). Meetings take place after 5pm Pacific and occasionally on weekends.
- Reports To: Founder, Lean in Latinas
About Lean In Latinas:
We are a volunteer-led nonprofit committed to empowering Latina women to close the gender wage gap. Through mentorship, education, and a strong network of Circles, we provide Latinas with the tools, support, and opportunities needed to succeed and lead in the workplace. Together, we’re creating a community where Latinas break barriers, achieve professional growth, and champion equality for all.
As an official Lean In Network (LeanIn.org), Lean In Latinas embraces this mission while focusing on the unique experiences of Latinas. We provide mentorship, resources, and networking opportunities to empower Latinas to take charge of their careers and close the gender wage gap.
Volunteer Role Overview:
As Chief Development Officer, you’ll develop and execute plans to expand the base of financial support for this growing organization. This is a key leadership role who will collaborate with leaders of the organization and often partner with conference and marketing volunteers.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop comprehensive fundraising strategy including corporate sponsorships, foundation fundraising, and individual giving, including email and digital solicitations.
- Review and update conference sponsorship opportunities in the $5,000+ range and develop and execute a plan to renew and recruit new sponsors.
- Identify and develop new sponsorship opportunities year-round, outside of the conference.
- Work with leadership on creating a new advisory council to serve as liaisons for support
- Plan fundraising activities for the year, including case messaging year-round, outlining needs from marketing and social media teams.
- Collaborate with Circle members throughout the country on ways they can support fundraising and/or fundraise for their local needs
- Recruit and build a team of additional fundraising volunteers to deliver on goals
- Set goals and metrics for fundraising volunteers and leadership team
- Work with Operations team on setting up CRM for prospects, both individual and corporate
- Ensure compliance for tax guidelines and foundation reporting
- Coordinate with the Finance team and provide guidance on nonprofit accounting and bookkeeping best practices.
- Recruit and onboard team member(s) for the Office of the Chief Development Officer, partnering to support and deliver key strategies and initiatives.

Ideal Qualifications:
- Fundraising experience with sponsorships, foundations, and individual giving
- Knowledge of fundraising mechanics, including grant writing, tax guidelines, acknowledgment language, foundation and corporate best practices, and other specifics to solicit, receive gifts, and thank donors.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote, flexible environment
